Urban Development and Environmental Research Center (UDERC) is an initiative of Sakano Lab, Department of Social Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. UDERC has established close research collaborations with different organizations in Japan, Pakistan and other countries. Most prominent institutions include Lab of Dr. Takeshi Komai, Institute of Geo Resources and Environment (GREEN), Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry (METI), Japan; Dr. Morishita Lab, Aichi Gakuin University, Japan; Dr. Nirei Hisashi, Emeritus Prof. Ibaraki University, Chairperson, Geo Pollution Control Agency (NPO), Japan; Prof. Watanabe, Social Entrepreneurship Program,  Graduate School of Social Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan; Dr. Kazuo Inoue, Chief Coordinator, Social Entrepreneurship Program, Graduate School of Social Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology and Dr. Shinji Tajima, International Center for Literacy and Culture (ICLC) Tokyo. Other institutions/labs include Lab of Prof. Walter Kosmus, University of Graz, Austria. In Pakistan UDERC is research partner with Department of Environmental Science, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU). UDERC is also a publishing partner with World Health Organization (WHO) to translate literature on environmental health and arsenic related publications.
UDERC has recently become implementing partner of UNICEF for the provision of arsenic-free water in selected project areas of Punjab.
UDERC also provides water purification units, arsenic and flourides removal technology for homes, institutions, commercial and industrial sector.
  

Save the Nation Program
Arsenic Free Water for All    [Join This Program]
In early April 2007, UDERC, Sakano Lab, Department of Social Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, started to enlist NGOs in Pakistan for Save the Nation Program: Arsenic Free Water for All. Under this program NGOs/NPOs/Social Groups/Professional Associations etc. are offered to become development partners of UDERC for projects such as urban sanitation, low cost housing, environmental management, health and water. Under this program, UDERC aims to install arsenic treatment units in Pakistan on the principle of equitable partnerships.  Meraj Khalid Foundation, Civil Society Network Kasur and Bunyad Foundation are playing a leading role in this program. 
NGOs/CCBs/Organizations willing to establish partnerships with UDERC are welcome to join this program.

UDERC, Sakano lab, Tokyo Institute of Technology; Morishita Lab, Aichi Gakuin University; Research Group of Dr. Takeshi Komai, Institute of Geo Resources and Environment, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry; and Environmental Science Department, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for joint research and actions on Arsenic-Mitigation Measures, Social Engineering, Sustainable Development, Disaster management and GIS Technology. The Governor of Punjab Gen. Khalid Maqbool presided the ceremony. [April 07, 2006]
